Cal Hosts San Diego State In Home Opener Friday

— Cal (0-2) begins a three-game homestand by hosting San Diego State (0-1) in a non-conference contest at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium on Friday with first draw scheduled for 5 pm PST 
— The Golden Bears are 2-8 against San Diego State all-time and have dropped six in a row to the Aztecs with the last Cal win in the series a 10-9 victory in Berkeley on Mar. 20, 2016
— The series has been competitive with San Diego State's combined margin of victory during its current six-game win streak a total of 13 goals with three San Diego State victories by a single goal including each of the last two contests and another coming in overtime     
— Friday's forecast in Berkeley calls for a gametime temperature of 63 degrees with mostly sunny skies and winds out of the northwest at five miles per hour 
— After hosting San Diego State in its first home contest of the 2022 season on Friday, the Bears will continue a three-game homestand by welcoming No. 15/15 Denver on Sunday (Noon PST) and UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 26 (2 pm PST) 

— Cal opened its 2022 season with a challenging two-game East Coast road trip at Navy and No. 11/11 Virginia on Feb. 11 and 13, and the Golden Bears came away with a pair of losses, falling 18-10 against the MIdshipmen and 18-5 to the Cavaliers
— Amanda Morse was the most productive offensive player for the Golden Bears with a combined five goals in the two contests, getting her first career hat trick by scoring three times at Navy before adding two scores at Virginia
— Loyola transfer Liz Scott had a hat trick in her first game as a Golden Bear at Navy, while LIly Berger had two goals against Navy; Olivia Dey one goal both at Navy and Virgina; and Kelly McIntyre (at Navy), Megan Mix (at Virginia) and Kacie Riggs (at Virginia) one total goal each
— Cal spotted Navy a 5-0 lead and never cut its deficit to fewer than three goals the rest of the way
— Cal scored the game's first goal and led 3-2 early in the second quarter at Virginia before the Cavaliers scored 14 of the game's final 15 goals
— Cal played two goalkeepers at Navy with starter Riley Drullinger being replaced by Alicia Souliotis early in the second half before Drullinger went the distance at Virginia
— "This is as tough as it gets to take a six-hour flight, play in the snow and go up against two top teams," Cal head coach Brooke Eubanks said about the team's season-opening two-game road trip at Navy and Virginia. "We challenged ourselves in our opening weekend. Now we know our strengths and focuses. We are ready to focus into next week and apply what we learned on this trip in our home opener."  

— Cal will dedicate this Sunday's game vs. Denver to StephStrong in honor of former Cal lacrosse player Stephanie Smith, a 2009 Cal graduate who passed away in 2018 at the age of 31 after a lengthy battle with cancer
— Cal's other dedication games in 2022 are scheduled to include Bears United, Morgan's Message, Oakland Lacrosse, One Love and a gear drive, with dates and details to be announced          

— Denise Wescott was promoted to associate head coach on Jan. 26, 2022, after serving for three seasons as an assistant coach with the Golden Bears from 2019-21
— Nikki Zaccaro is Cal's active leader in career games played (63), games started (53), points (127), goals (54), assists (73), shots (170) and shots on goal (112)
— Cal has a pair of transfers on the roster in Liz Scott (Loyola) and Caroiine Roxas (Wagner), as well as well as a pair of sisters (Caroline and Catherine Roxas; Kennedy and Quinnlyn Mason)
— Cal had a team bonding trip early in its 2022 training camp in which the Golden Bears went "glamping" at the Costanoa Lodge in the coastal town of Pescadero just under 70 miles from Berkeley
