Sekulic Tied for 8th After Day One at John Burns Intercollegiate

LIHUE, Hawaii – Washington State men's golf redshirt senior Max Sekulic got his spring started off on a high note, as the Rycroft, Alberta native sits in a tie for eighth place on the player leaderboard after carding 4-under; 68 through 18 holes of play at the John Burns Intercollegiate.

Sekulic collected a team-high seven birdies in Thursday's first round, which was the third-most collected by a golfer in the tournament's opening round. The redshirt senior posted back-to-back birdies in his final two holes to end the first round in a tie for eighth place at 4-under; 68.

Washington State ended the first day of the John Burns Intercollegiate in a three-way tie for 10th place with Texas A&M and UNLV. The Cougars carded 2-over; 290 as a team through the tournament's first 18 holes.

Sophomore Jaden Cantafio shot even par; 72 in his first round of the spring. Cantafio carded 2-under over his final six holes of the round to end his day in a tie for 37th.

Arizona sits a top the team leaderboard after 18 holes of play, as the Wildcats carded 13-under; 275 in the first round. California's Simon Kwon holds a one-stroke lead over his teammate Aaron Du and Southern Cal's Shane Ffrench for first place at the end of the first day of play at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
