DMR Squad Set to Compete in South Bend at Alex Wilson Invitational

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field team will have a light week of action as it sends the DMR team to South Bend, Ind., for the Alex Wilson Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 19, inside the Loftus Sports Center.

OFF THE BLOCKS
Utah will send Sophie Ryan, Simone Plourde, Brooke Manson and Josefine Eriksen to South Bend this weekend to compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Heading into the weekend, Utah checks in at No. 20 in the latest qualifying list with a time of 11:18.95 and was ran by Ryan, Oneillia Fuller, Brooke Manson and Simone Plourde back on Jan. 28 at the UW Invite.
 
LAST TIME OUT
For the third-consecutive week Josefine Eriksen stepped onto the track and set a new school record last, this time in the 600m run at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. In addition to winning the race with a school record-time of 1:28.27, Eriksen also broke the Norwegian record previously held by Hedda Hynne (1:29.06) back on June 11, 2020. Additionally, the Stavern, Norway, product also broke the ABQ Convention Center facility record. Meanwhile, her time of 1:28.27 is also the fourth-fastest time among NCAA Division I competitors this season.
 
The weekend also saw plenty of Utes move up or enter into the all-time records. Maya LeBar moved into third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.71 (aa) while Kelise Davis jumped into fourth with a time of 24.85 (aa). Joining, Eriksen in the records book was Jasie York after running 1:33.33 in the 600m. Ruby Jane Mathewson also saw herself break into the top-10 with an 8.94 (aa) mark in the 60m hurdles.
 
Over in Seattle, the distance crew saw Emily Venters post the second-fastest time in program history with a 15:48.02 run in the 5000m. Simone Plourde ran the third-fastest mile for Utah, posting a mark of 4:38.25.

SALUTE TO BLACK HISTORY MONTH
As part of the Utah Athletics Department's celebration of black history month, track & field student-athlete Maya LeBar joined gymnast Cammy Hall and host Steven "Sly" Sylvester in episode 3 of Our Voices: Celebrating Black History Month.

The Women of Utah resume action in the final regular-season meet as they once again travel to the PNW to participate in the Pac-12 Invitational (Feb. 25-26) hosted by Washington at Dempsey Indoor Track.
