Dawgs Defeat Texas Tech, Come From Behind to Defeat No. 7 Oklahoma State
CLEARWATER, Florida – No. 6 Washington narrowly defeated Texas Tech 1-0 Saturday afternoon, and then less than an hour later, beat No. 7 Oklahoma State 7-6 after being down 2-4 in the sixth inning. Washington moves to 9-0, and has defeated four ranked opponents this year, three in the past two days.
Not much was going for Washington against Texas Tech, as the team was held to its lowest scoring output of the season. Kinsey Fiedler did her best to get the Dawgs on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but the Texas Tech right fielder was able snag the home run from behind the fence. Baylee Klingler eventually ended the stalemate with her fourth home run of the tournament (fifth of the season). Gabbie Plain earned the win, pitching the entirety of the game and striking out nine.
It looked like the Dawgs might face their first loss of the season, with No. 7 Oklahoma State holding control for much of the game. Baylee Klingler continued her hot hitting streak, doubling in the sixth to pull Washington within one (3-4). Kinsey Fiedler then singled and tied the game at four. In the bottom of the sixth, the Cowgirls plated two, putting the Huskies in a situation they hadn't faced much this season. It was no matter for Madi Huskey – though – who sent a clutch home run to deep center field to tie the game at six. Klinger then sealed the deal with a single that was able to send Kelley Lynch home on a Cowgirl error. Pat Moore earned the win with 3.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts.
