Haendiges Deals Complete Game, Offense Explodes in Oregon State's Win Over DePaul

Feb 19, 2022

SAN DIEGO – It was a dominant effort for the Oregon State softball team, which earned a 10-0 victory in five innings behind a stellar outing for Sarah Haendiges and an explosion from the Beaver offense in the second day of the Torero Classic on Saturday.

Haendiges earned the win with 5.0 scoreless innings of two-hit ball, notching three strikeouts in the performance. She improved to 2-0 on the year with two complete games in her early Beaver career.

Oregon State (5-3) recorded 14 hits and did all the necessary damage in the first and third innings, putting up three and six runs in the frames, respectively. The Orange & Black added another insurance run in the fourth from Frankie Hammoude's sixth bomb of the season.

Freshman Kiki Escobar continued her stellar start to her career with three more hits including a double in the third. In total, five Beavers recorded multiple hits and five recorded at least an RBI.

The offense broke through in the top of the first, as Escobar got things started with a single to left. A DePaul error and a pair of singles from Kaylah Nelson and Lici Campbell made it 3-0.

Haendiges went to work in the bottom of the second, retiring the batters in order to hold the Blue Demons scoreless.

The Beaver offense broke the game open in the top of the third. After a Mariah Mazon single and a Frankie Hammoude double, Nelson grabbed her second RBI with an infield single.  Smart base running followed by hits from Campbell (solo), Madison Simon (solo), Xiao Gin (triple) and Escobar (double) made it 9-0.

In the bottom half of the fourth frame, Haendiges added one of her three strikeouts to once again retire the Blue Demons in order. Haendiges sealed the victory with back-to-back strikeouts.
