No. 17 USC Men's Basketball Hosts Washington State Sunday On Senior Day

The No. 17 USC Trojans (22-4, 11-4) will host the Washington State Cougars (14-11, 7-7) at the Galen Center on Feb. 20 at 4:30 p.m.  The game will air on FS1 with Alex Faust and Casey Jacobsen calling the action. USC has won 20+ games for the third consecutive season, equaling the school record for most consecutive 20 win seasons set from 2016-18. USC's 22-4 start is its best since also starting 22-4 during the 1974 season.  USC was 23-4 after 27 games in 1974 and 22-5 after 27 games in 1992.

FACING WASHINGTON STATE -- Washington State (14-11, 7-7) is coming off a 76-56 loss at UCLA on Feb. 17.  WSU has lost its last four games after winning the previous five games.  Nine of the Cougars' 11 losses have been by 5 points or less.  Guard Michael Flowers leads WSU in scoring with a 13.4 ppg average.  USC defeated WSU, 63-61, in Pullman, Wash. on Dec. 4.  USC has won its last 11 games against the Cougars and leads the all-time series 80-48.

IT STARTS WITH DEFENSE -- USC held Washington to 36.7 percent shooting on Feb. 17 and has held 18 of its 26 opponents to under 40 percent shooting this season.  USC is holding the opposition to a 37.7 shooting percentage, 7th in the country.  USC held its first 12 opponents under 40 percent shooting in each game and to a combined 35.2 shooting percentage, which was second in the country.  The Trojans were the first team in the last 15 seasons to hold its first 12 opponents to under 40 percent shooting in each game. 

USC DOWNS THE HUSKIES -- Chevez Goodwin scored his USC high of 24 points to lead the Trojans to a 79-69 win over Washington at the Galen Center on Feb. 17. USC started slow and trailed by 5 points early, but Goodwin scored 16 of his 24 points before the break to lead the Trojans to a 42-25 bulge at halftime. Drew Peterson had 14 points with seven assists. Isaiah Mobley, who missed the last two games due to concussion like symptoms, wore a protective mask and scored 12 and added eight assists in his return.  The Trojans had 28 assists on its 30 field goal attempts. It was USC's most assists in a game since also registering 28 on Feb. 28, 2019 at UCLA.  USC also made 48.4 percent of its shots, including 40 percent from 3-point range, while holding Washington to 36.7 shooting. Boogie Ellis scored 9 points, matched a career best with 2 blocks and had a season-high 4 steals. 

GOODWIN EYES THE TOP OF THE HILL -- USC forward Chevez Goodwin has played in 164 career games, second all-time among NCAA Division I players behind Jordan Bohanon of Iowa who has played in 168 through Feb. 19.  The NCAA record for games played entering this season was 157 by David Lighty of Ohio State (2007-11).  Three other players have played in 158 career games.  Goodwin has played in 59 games as a member of the Trojans' program.

THE TOASTS OF THE COASTS AND NCAA -  When USC defeated Pacific 74-68 on Feb. 8 it completed an undefeated nonconference slate of 11-0.  USC was also undefeated during the 2016-17 nonconference schedule.  O00nly USC and Villanova (2016-17 and 2017-18) have posted two perfect nonconference seasons of 10 or more wins in the last six years.

USC'S ELITE EIGHT RUN UP FOR AN LA SPORTS AWARD - The USC men's basketball run to the Elite Eight is up for Greatest Sports Moment of 2021 by the LA Sports Council. Fans can vote for their favorite moment and the winners will be announced at the 17th Annual LA Sports Awards Show which will be simulcast on Tuesday, March 8 on Spectrum's Sportsnet and SportsnetLA. Fans can vote through March 3rd on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

OREGON STATE ON DECK -- USC's next game will be at Oregon State (3-21, 1-13) on Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. in Corvallis, Ore.  Oregon State is playing at Arizona State on Feb. 19 before returning home to host the Trojans.  Oregon State has lost 11 consecutive games.  USC defeated OSU 81-71 on Jan. 13 in Los Angeles.  Guard Jarod Lucas leads OSU in scoring at 13.4 points per game.  USC owns a 76-66 all-time record against Oregon State (2 wins vacated due to NCAA penalty, original record 78-66).  USC has won 9 of its last 12 games against OSU. The Trojans lost 58-56 in Corvallis last season.

LEADERS OF THE PAC -- USC is tied in conference wins among Pac-12 teams for the past five seasons (since the 2017-18 season).  USC is 57-32 in conference games during that stretch, while Oregon is 57-30, Arizona is 56-32, UCLA is 55-30 and Colorado is 50-35.

GOODWIN'S IMPROVEMENT STANDS OUT - Chevez Goodwin has started all 26 games and is averaging 12.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and ranks 13th in the country in shooting percentage (59.6). Last season, Goodwin averaged 5.6 points and 3.5 rebounds and made one start. Goodwin had 18 rebounds at Colorado on Jan. 20, the most by a Trojan since Nick Rakocevic also had 18 vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 11, 2018.  Also, his 9 offensive rebounds on Jan. 13 were the most by a Trojan since Taj Gibson had 10 on Nov. 20, 2008 vs. Seton Hall.  Goodwin has recorded seven rebounds or more in 15 games this season and has scored nine or more points in 21 games. Goodwin scored his USC high of 24 points on Jan. 17 vs. Washington.
