Cal Continues Homestand Sunday Against Denver

CAL CONTINUES HOMESTAND SUNDAY AGAINST DENVER
— Cal (0-3) continues a three-game homestand Sunday by hosting No. 15/15 Denver (2-0) in a non-conference game at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium with first draw scheduled for Noon PT
— Cal is coming off a 15-6 loss to San Diego State on Friday while Denver was an 8-6 winner at No. 14/14 Stanford the same day 
— Cal has a 5-12 all-time record against Denver in a series that matches the teams against each other for the first time since 2019
— Denver has a current win streak of 11 straight in the series with a victory each time the teams played from 2007-19 when they met once every season other than in 2018
— Cal won the first meeting between the teams in Denver in 2001 and each season from 2002-05 with all but a 2004 win also in Berkeley        
— Sunday's forecast in Berkeley calls for a gametime temperature of 54 degrees with sunny skies and winds out of the west/northwest at 14 miles per hour 
  
THREE-GAME HOMESTAND WRAPS NEXT SATURDAY AGAINST UC DAVIS
— After hosting San Diego State in its season opener on Friday and No. 15/15 Denver today the Golden Bears will conclude a three-game homestand against UC Davis next Saturday, Feb. 26 (2 pm PT) 

CAL FALLS TO 0-3 WITH FRIDAY LOSS TO SAN DIEGO STATE
— Cal has opened its 2022 season with three consecutive loss with the first two coming on a challenging East Coast road trip at Navy (18-10) and No. 11/11 Virginia (18-5) before the Golden Bears fell to San Diego State (15-6) in its home opener this past Friday
— Amanda Morse has been Cal's most productive offensive player through three games with a combined eight goals and nine points in the three contests, getting her first career hat trick by scoring three times at Navy before adding two more goals and one assist at Virginia, and then picking up another hat trick against San Diego State  
— Loyola transfer Liz Scott had a hat trick in her first game as a Golden Bear at Navy, before adding her fourth goal of the season against San Diego State and is second on the team in both goals and points with four
— Freshman Kennedy Mason scored the first goal of her career against San Diego State moments after entering her first game as a Golden Bear
— Others to score goals this season include Lily Berger and Olivia Dey with two each, while Megan Mix, Kelly McIntyre, Kacie Riggs and Nikki Zaccaro have won apiece
— Cal has started strong in its two of its first three games, holding a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter at Virginia and a 3-1 margin after the first quarter against San Diego State
— "This is a shift from our past," Cal head coach Brooke Eubanks said about the strong starts. "In the past, we've had trouble starting off strong, and that's something we've really worked on this year. However, we've got to be able to sustain that."  

TODAY'S STEPH STRONG GAME FIRST OF SEVERAL 2022 DEDICATION GAMES
— Former Cal lacrosse player Stephanie Smith will be honored at today's game. Smith, who played at Cal from 2006-09, passed away due to cancer at the age of 31 in 2018
— Cal's other dedication games in 2022 are scheduled to include Bears United, Morgan's Message, Oakland Lacrosse, One Love and a gear drive, with dates and details of each still to be announced

— Cal has a pair of transfers in Liz Scott (Loyola) and Caroiine Roxas (Wagner)
— Cal has a pair of sisters in Caroline and Catherine Roxas, and Kennedy and Quinnlyn Mason
— Denise Wescott was promoted to associate head coach on Jan. 26, 2022, after serving for three seasons as an assistant coach with the Golden Bears from 2019-21
