Long Road Trip Ends In 5-2 Loss At Notre Dame

Feb 20, 2022

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Husky women's tennis team ended its lengthy road trip with a 5-2 setback today at Notre Dame's Eck Tennis Pavilion. Washington (7-4) got singles wins from Vanessa Wong and Nika Zupancic but the Fighting Irish (7-3) controlled the rest of the action.
The Huskies will be back at home next weekend at the Nordstrom Tennis Center to host Kansas State and Boise State.
Down 1-0 after dropping the doubles point, the Huskies could only get ahead on two of the six singles courts. Zupancic, returning to action after missing Friday's win at Purdue, controlled her match at No. 3 singles, beating Nibedita Ghosh, 6-2, 6-1. Wong finished off a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles spot over Julia Andreach, but by that point Notre Dame had already clinched.
Sarah-Maude Fortin lost for just the second time in dual play, falling 6-3, 6-2 against Page Freeman at No. 2 singles. Hikaru Sato also suffered just her second loss, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 singles to Yashna Yellayi. Tara Chilton and Zoey Weil both lost in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
