Men’s Tennis Earns Two Sweeps; Improve to 13-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Utes men's tennis team wrapped up another weekend of matches at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center as they faced Drake and Montana State, teams. Utah cruised through their match against Drake, finishing 4-0 and once again against Montana State for a final score of 4-0 and a continued undefeated record standing at 13-0. This is the best start in program history.
Utah vs. Drake
The Utah squad started off the day with a lead on the Drake Bulldogs as they secured the doubles point quickly at the beginning of their match. On court two, Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula nearly swept their opponents, finishing 6-1. Soon after, Jayson Blando and Mathias Gavelin also downed the Bulldog duo on court three, finishing 6-2 and securing the doubles point for the Utes. Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman were leading, 5-2, but did not finish their match on court one.
The match moved into singles play, where Utah dominated the courts. The second match point came on court four, where Caula downed Drake's Evan Fragistas 6-2, 6-2. Soon after, Bastias took the upper hand against Oliver Johansson, finishing 6-3, 6-3 and warding the Utes with their third match point. The final point came on court one after Capalbo took the victory against Bulldog Jeremy Schifris, 6-3, 6-2, clinching the match in the Utes' favor.
Matches on courts three, five, and six were unfinished.
Utah vs. Montana State 
The Utes started off strong for their second match of the day, securing the doubles point once more. On court three, J. Blando and Gavelin downed MSU's Brad Buckland and Jamieson Nathan 6-3. Soon after, teammates Bastias and Caula also took the victory on court two, downing the Wildcat duo 6-3 and moving the match into singles play. The match on court one was unfinished.
The Utes once more had stellar performances and moved through singles quite quickly. Capalbo downed MSU's Matej Panik 6-1, 6-1, awarding the Utah squad with their second match point on court one. On court four, Caula also defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-4. The match point came on court three, where Espin Busleiman downed Wildcat Jamieson Nathan 6-3, 6-1 and clinched the match to favor the Utes.
On court two, Bastias was battling it out for a win on the second set and Gavelin and Ta on courts five and six. Their matches were unfinished.
