Rowing Promotes Campbell to Associate Head Coach

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State rowing Head Coach Jane LaRiviere has announced that Brandon Campbell has been elevated to the position of associate head coach for the Cougar women's rowing program.

Campbell has been with the WSU women's rowing program since the fall of 2015 in a variety of roles. While pursuing his graduate degree, Campbell served as the graduate assistant with the Cougar women's rowing team. In the fall of 2017, Brandon was tabbed to lead the novice team and guided the Novice 8+ to a third-place finish at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships. He was elevated to the role of assistant coach prior to the 2019-20 season.

"I am delighted to announce the promotion of Brandon Campbell to associate head coach for the Washington State rowing team," said LaRiviere. "Brandon joined our staff in 2015 as the graduate assistant coach. Since then, he has achieved success in a variety of roles on our staff, including head novice coach, recruiting coordinator and 1st varsity assistant coach. Brandon's energy, intelligence, enthusiasm and love for rowing is contagious. His knowledge and technical expertise benefit our student-athletes and strengthen our coaching staff.  Brandon is passionate about coaching and his commitment to providing the best possible student-athlete experience is evident throughout our program."

Campbell has been a key component for the Washington State women's rowing program since making his way to Pullman. During the 2021 season, Campbell helped guide the Cougars back to the NCAA Rowing Championships for the 14th time in program history. WSU finished 15th as a team at the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida, while the varsity four boat captured an eighth-place finish and the first varsity eight and the second varsity eight each placed 15th.

"There is something special happening on the Palouse right now and I feel truly grateful to continue my journey with the Cougs," Campbell expressed. "I consider myself very lucky to be part of a department that continually raises the bar when it comes to supporting today's student-athletes. It is inspiring to wake up every morning and work with a group of student-athletes and coaches that define what it means to be a Coug. I want to thank Jane for the mentorship she has provided me throughout the past few years. I would also like to thank Anne McCoy and the rest of the administration for their continued support. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the years to come."

Campbell started his coaching career in 2010 at the South Niagara Rowing Club located in Welland, Ontario, Canada. During his time there, he coached crews to gold medal performances. Campbell began coaching the heavyweight men at Brock University from 2012-15. He also represented Canada at the 2014 FISU University World Championships as a team coach.

The Washington State rowing team kicks off its 2022 spring regatta schedule March 5 at Lake Las Vegas. The Cougars will open the spring racing against Washington and Southern California.
