LA QUINTA, Calif. – The UCLA men's golf team finished day one at The Prestige on the PGA West Norman Course tied for 19th at 18-over, 302. Freshman Pablo Ereño Perez was the Bruins' top scorer with a 2-over 73, finishing round one tied for 24th.
No. 18 Vanderbilt leads the 24-team field at 3-over 287. The par-71 course saw only eight under-par performances in round one, led by Colorado State's Davis Bryant and Vanderbilt's Reid Davenport who pace the field with a pair of 2-under 69s.
Ereño Perez birdied three times in his round on the par-4 9th, par-4 10th and par-4 14th.
Rounding out UCLA's counting scorers were freshman Evan Chien (T-53rd, 4-over 75) and freshmen Alvaro Mueller Baumgart Lucena and Omar Morales and graduate Eddy Lai who all tied for 82nd at 6-over 77.
Tee times for round two are set to begin at 6:45 a.m. PT.
