Carey Snags Fourth Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Honor

Feb 22, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – Freshman Jade Carey earned her seventh conference honor this season after pulling down the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Following her performance at No. 4 Utah, this is the fifth consecutive week and fourth freshman honor for the Olympic gold medalist during her young Beaver career.

Carey helped Oregon State gymnastics earn its fourth 197 of the 2022 campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah as it's the first time since 2017 that the Beavers have done so in a single season. She totaled four event titles, including sole ownership of all-around and vault while sharing bars and floor.

The Phoenix, Ariz. native once again anchored the Orange & Black in every event, starting with a 9.95 on bars to share the title with Olympic teammate Grace McCallum. She followed that rotation up with a beautiful career-high 9.975 on vault. With a 9.925 on floor, the Beavers posted their highest road score of 49.400 on the apparatus and Carey concluded the night with a 9.85 on beam.

Carey has now scored a 9.9 or better in 22-24 routines with 27 individual titles and holds the OSU school record in the all-around with 39.825. She has also anchored the Beavers in all 24 rotations this season.

Carey and the Orange & Black have a quick turnaround as the Beavers return home one last time this season on Friday, Feb. 25 against No. 19 Stanford. The Beavers and Cardinal are set to square off at 7:30 p.m. PT inside Gill Coliseum for Senior Night.
