Lee Named MPSF Gymnast Of The Week
SEATTLE – After a fantastic meet on Sunday in which he scored 80.600 in the all-around competition, Cal men's gymnastics senior Yu-Chen Lee has won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 22nd, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. This is Lee's third such award after earning two in 2021.
"Before the meet, both Coach JT (Okada) and Coach Bryan (Del Castillo) came up to me and told me that they just wanted me to have fun," said Lee. "That advice really helped me because I was able to loosen up and compete in the same way that I've been training."
In Sunday's contest against Air Force, Lee notched personal-best scores on pommel horse (12.300), still rings (13.600) and horizontal bar (13.150) while matching his season-best mark on vault (14.100). He currently stands as the nation's No. 9 gymnast on the floor exercise, as ranked by the Collegiate Gymnastics Association (CGA).
Lee and the Bears will make their next appearance on March 5 in a tri-meet against Stanford and Air Force at Stanford's Burnham Pavilion.
