Santos Signs with Charlotte FC

Feb 22, 2022

SAN DIEGO – Laukoa Santos signed a contract with Charlotte FC of the MLS, the club announced last week.

"I am forever grateful for the memories made and the lessons learned on The Mesa," Santos said reflecting on his time at SDSU. "From all teammates I was blessed to play with, I wouldn't have it any other way. To my teammates, Coach Hopkins and Tim Lanski, thank you for taking Aztecs Men's soccer to higher heights. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this program. To everyone in the athletic department, I thank you for your support and shaping me into the man I am today. Lastly, I would like to thank my wonderful family, friends, and the state of Hawai'i for the consistent support throughout my journey. I'm excited for what's to come. The grind continues."

Santos (Waikoloa, Hawai'i) signed a one-year contract with option years until 2025 following a successful showing in the preseason.

"Laukoa has been through so many challenging situations in his young life and has faced them all head on," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said. "The way he moved on so quickly after the disappointment of not being drafted to jumping right into a MLS preseason tryout was so impressive. We can't wait to watch him pursue his dreams and wish him the very best."

Santos (Waikoloa, Hawai'i) became the first Hawaiian men's soccer player to play in the Pac-12. After redshirting as a freshman, Santos appeared in 58 matches over the past four years while making 40 starts for the Aztecs.
