USC Lacrosse’s Kait Devir, Shelby Tilton Sweep Pac-12 Weekly Awards

Feb 22, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse sophomore goalie Kait Devir (Ridgewood, N.J.) was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore attacker Shelby Tilton (Westlake Village, Calif.) was chosen as the league's Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 14-20, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Devir wins the Pac-12's defensive weekly award for the second straight week and for the second time in her career. Tilton receives her first-career weekly honor from the league. It is the fifth time that USC has swept both the defensive and offensive awards; the first time since two Trojans won on the same week on Feb. 24, 2020. Only Colorado has swept the weekly awards more times (6). USC and Stanford have each now done it five times and ASU has swept the awards four times previously.
Devir is now among 21 players in league history to have won a Pac-12 weekly award more than once in her career; and among six Trojans to have accomplished the feat. She was stout in the cage to secure a crucial 13-12 road win over No. 18 Jacksonville. Devir allowed just six goals in a second win over Mercer also on the road. In total, she produced 14 saves in two games to improve to 3-0 herself and helped USC start a season 3-0 for the fourth time in program history.
Tilton, who receives the first weekly honor of her career, was instrumental in the Trojans' two road victories over the weekend. She recorded back-to-back hat tricks—the first two of her career—and scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute to play against No. 18-ranked Jacksonville. In total, Tilton scored six goals on just 11 shots for an 81.8% shots-on-goal percentage. Tilton also picked up four ground balls and had a draw control in the two games.
The Pac-12 is in its fifth season of women's lacrosse. Women of Troy have earned conference weekly honors a league best 21 times (15 defensive and six offensive). Colorado ranks second with 20 all-time awards. Stanford follows with 17 and then Arizona State with 16. Oregon (3) and California (1) round out the group.
The Trojans (3-0) entered the ILWomen/IWLCA Coaches Poll at No. 23 this week. USC has a bye/open week before returning to action next Tuesday (March 8) at home against No. 11 Princeton. The Trojans will also open Pac-12 play later that weekend as hosts to Colorado (March 11) and Oregon (March 13) at McAlister Field.
