Bears Open With Two Podium Finishes At Pac-12 Meet

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Cal posted a pair of podium finishes on Wednesday night to open the Pac-12 Championships. The Golden Bears claimed third place in the 200-yard medley relay and followed up with a second-place showing in the 800-yard free relay.
 
The meet continues through Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Racing resumes at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with prelims in the 500 free, 200 individual medley and 50 free. The finals session begins at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on Pac-12.com and on the Pac-12 Now app.
 
In the first event of the night, the foursome of Isabelle Stadden, Ema Rajic, Mia Kragh and Elise Garcia swam to a time of 1:36.09 in the 200 medley relay, which put the Bears in third place. Cal also had a team in a non-scoring heat with Reed Broaders, Alicia Henry, McKenna Stone and Emily Gantriis getting to the wall in 1:37.73, which was the seventh fastest of 19 teams that entered the race.
 
In the 800 free relay, Isabel Ivey, Ayla Spitz, Alicia Wilson and Leah Polonsky combined for a time of 6:59.11, which was second behind Stanford and good for Cal's fastest time this season. In addition, Robin Neumann, Rachel Klinker, Mia Motekaitis and Lizzy Cook swam 7:03.95 in their non-scoring heat.
 
Cal is the defending Pac-12 champion and has won five conference team titles over its history, all since 2009.
