No. 23 Softball on road for University of Texas Tournament

Feb 23, 2022

AUSTIN, TX – After hosting two tournaments at Farrington Stadium, No. 23 Sun Devil softball will partake in their first road tournament of the 2022 season from Feb. 25-27 in the University of Texas Tournament. ASU will play five games in the span of three days where it will take on No. 11 Texas twice, Tulsa, Texas State and UTSA.

The Sun Devils take on Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Friday followed by a game later that afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with Tulsa. On the second day, ASU takes on Texas State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and that night it will take on UTSA at 6 p.m. Then, the Sun Devils will take on the Longhorns again on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to finish the tournament.

This will be the first road tournament for ASU softball since the abbreviated 2020 season when the team traveled to Cathedral City, California for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic when it went 3-3 when it run-ruled its first three games winning by at least 12 runs in each of those. Current Sun Devil upperclassmen Alynah Torres, Bella Loomis and Halle Harger all had parts in the offense in the eight home runs scored in one day throughout their lone away tournament of that season.

ASU won four of its five games in last weekend's Littlewood Classic that was hosted in Tempe as the Sun Devils won those four games all on run-rules. Walk-off home runs was the story of the weekend as Jasmine Hill had a walk-off home run to end the game in an 8-0 shutout of Minnesota in the opening game and Mailey McLemore had her first home run of the season to end the game in five innings in a 10-0 shutout of UTEP.
