Cal Crosses Bay For DeMarini Invitational

BERKELEY -- California softball heads across the Bay this weekend for the DeMarini Invitational, with four games against Fresno State and Mount St. Mary's on the slate at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.          

The Bears open the weekend with a single game at 3:30 p.m. against the Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 25 and return Saturday morning, Feb. 26, for a 10 a.m. rematch with Fresno State before facing Mount St. Mary's at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cal wraps up action on Sunday with a 10 a.m. first pitch against the Mount. Live Stats are available for all four games, but the contests won't be streamed.

  • Cal is off to its best start since the 2018 season at 8-3.
  • The Bears improved to 67-2 all-time against Saint Mary's with a 12-1 five-inning win over the Gaels Wednesday at Levine-Fricke Field.
  • California owns a 5-0 record when scoring first this season, but also has registered three come from behind victories.
  • Tatum Anzaldo leads the Pac-12 Conference with 18 hits and is fourth with a .514 batting average through the first two weeks of the season.
  • Makena Smith is third in the Pac-12 with a .517 average at the plate and has recorded at least one hit in all 10 of Cal's games to start the season. She leads the team in RBI (14) and home runs (4) which is tied for the fourth-most in the conference.
  • Sona Halajian is swinging a hot bat to begin the season, tallying a .484 average, third-best on the squad. Halajian also threw a complete game in Cal's 3-1 win over Illinois State, giving up just one unearned run while scattering four hits. She owns a pitching record of 5-0 after earning the win against Saint Mary's on Wednesday.
  • Freshman Acacia Anders has quickly made her presence known in the Golden Bears' lineup, starting all 10 games in the infield while hitting in the two spot. Anders is hitting .353 and has recorded at least one hit in nine of 10 games. The Vacaville native smacked her first career home run on Feb. 20 against Minnesota.
