Day 2 at Pac-12 Championships Complete

Feb 24, 2022

TUCSON, Ariz. & FEDERAL WAY, Wash.- The women's swimming team continued competition at day two of the Pac-12 Championships on Thursday with senior Leyre Casarin leading the way with a top-15 finish in the 50 free. Casarin touched in 22.49, a new personal-best.

Sophomore Taylor Kabacy represented Utah in the 500 free, swimming a season-best time 4:51.29. Summer Stanfield was the lone Ute in the 200 IM final and touched in 2:00.58.

Moving to the dive championships in Arizona, freshman Holly Waxman and junior Lizzy DeCecco led the Utes earning top-15 finishes on the 3m. Waxman scored a 261.25 and DeCecco totaled 219.65.

For the men, senior Tony Chen captured fourth-place with a score of 334.05 as freshman Ben Smyth secured seventh with 287.35 points on the 1m.

"Tony and Ben salvaged the day for us with a very solid showing in the 1m final. They were very steady and dived with composure in the final so I'm happy because they dove up to their capabilities," head diving coach Richard Marschner said. "We had kind of a rough day otherwise and I didn't do a good enough job of making sure we were in the right place mentally because our ability and what we are capable of doing didn't match our results. But we'll learn from today and apply what we learned to the rest of this meet and to NCAA Zones."
