Water Polo to Face Long Beach State in Revised Tourney Schedule

Feb 24, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. -- On Wednesday night, it was announced that the Barbara Kalbus Invitational schedule was changed with California no longer competing in the tournament. Sun Devil Water Polo (6-6) will now face No. 13 Long Beach State (7-7), and participate in Group B with No. 2 USC and No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer (DIII). Friday's game will still be at 5:15 pm MST with live stats but no stream, and the winner will go on to face the winner of the USC/Pomona-Pitzer game with the losers facing the losers.

Game two will be Saturday, February 25 regardless of a win or loss, and be the first of two games on Saturday.

After a few weeks off from hosting the ASU Invitational, the Sun Devils remained at No. 9 in the CWPA polls, and Long Beach State checked in at No. 13. The last time the two teams faced each other was in 2017 at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational when the then-ranked number five Sun Devils defeated the Dirtbags, 9-5. All-time, ASU takes the series advantage with the 9-5 record, all nine of those wins being in the last 10 games-- the lone loss of that stretch coming in 2015.

The rest of the weekend's matchups will be determined by the winners and losers of groups A-D.

Live stat links will be tweeted out before each game from @SunDevilWP. For more tournament information, you can head here
