Djeffal Signs Contract with D.C. United

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United has signed Oregon State midfielder Sofiane Djeffal to a Reserve Minimum contract with options in 2023, 2024, and 2025, pending a receipt of his P-1 Visa. Djeffal was the 36th overall pick of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

While at Oregon State, the Nantes, France native started 65 of 66 games that he appeared in from 2018 to 2021. Djeffal was named Pac-12 Player of the Year for his efforts on the pitch this season and earned his fourth First-Team All-Pac-12  honor. He also nabbed All-Far West Region and All-American honors from the United Soccer Coaches and was tabbed a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist. During this season's campaign, he scored six goals, including the game-winners against Denver (Aug. 27), UCLA (Sept. 30), and California (Oct. 7). Djeffal also had six assists and tallied 18 points. In the Pac-12 standings, Djeffal capped the season tied for fourth in the goals, points, and game-winner categories. 

The Beavers went 14-4-2 (7-1-2 Pac-12) in a historic fall campaign. Oregon State posted eight shutouts during the regular season and climbed the United Soccer Coaches rankings, capping the season with a No. 1 national ranking. The Beavers cliched their first Pac-12 title on Nov. 11.  As the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, OSU notched two more shutouts, advancing to its first Elite Eight appearance in program history.
