Men's Tennis Looks to Improve Winning Streak
The Utah men's tennis team closes out a month-long homestand on Saturday evening when they host in-state rival Weber State at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. Utah will look to continue its winning ways, with the first serve happening at 5 p.m. MT.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE UTES
The last time the Utes took the court was Sunday, Feb. 20, when they faced Drake and Montana State. The Utes earned their second and third straight sweeps. Utah opened by defeating Drake, 4-0. The win for Utah was its 12th win to open the season, setting a new program record. Franco Capalbo clinched the win for the Utes in No. 1 singles. He defeated Jeremy Schifris, 6-3, 6-2 for the win.
The winning ways continued that night with a 4-0 victory over Montana State. After taking the doubles point, Capalbo, Bruno Caula, and Geronimo Espin Busleiman came away with single wins for the Utes and gave Utah its 13th win over the season.
SCOUTING WEBER STATE
The Wildcats of Weber State enter the weekend with a record of 3-8 on the season. The Wildcats will face Eastern Washington on Friday morning in a Big Sky matchup before facing the Utes on Saturday. Weber State is coming off a 6-1 victory over Colorado Mesa on Feb. 20. The Wildcats are 16-15 in doubles, with Jordan Coutinho/Matteo Savio and Elyes Marouani/Tristan Sarap leading the team with five wins each. In singles play, the Wildcats are 18-37, with Marouani and Sarap leading the way with five wins.
LAST TIME VS. WEBER STATE
Utah squared off with Weber State on April 21 to close out the regular season. Utah came away with a 6-1 win against the Wildcats at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
UTAH IN THE POLLS
The USTA/Tennis Channel Poll and the ITA Team National Rankings were announced on Wednesday. The Utes found themselves in the top 30 in both. Utah came in at No. 26 in both polls this week. The initial computerized ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men's team rankings were released on February 23, 2022. The ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men's Team Rankings feature the nation's Top 75 teams.
BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Utah is off to the best start in program history. Utah improved to 13-0 last Sunday with a pair of wins over Drake and Montana State. Previously, Utah tied the best start in program history, which was 11-0 during the 2015-16 season.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since the beginning of the 2015 season, the Utes have dominated home play and hold an 85-20 (.809) record at the Eccles Tennis Center. Utah holds a 46-7 (.867) record in Salt Lake City in the past four seasons. Last season, the Utes went 13-3 at home, the most since in a single season since 2015. Utah is 9-0 at home this season.
For the first time since Jan. 30, Utah hits the road. Utah heads to San Diego to play at San Diego State and UC San Diego on Sunday, March 6. Utah will face San Diego State at 10 a.m. MT and close out the day at UC San Diego at 4 p.m. MT.
