Feb 25, 2022

The No. 16 USC Trojans (24-4, 13-4) will play at Oregon (18-10, 11-6) at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore. on Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m.  The game will air on ESPN2 with Roxy Bernstein and Ben Braun calling the action. USC's 24-4 start is its best since also starting 24-4 during the 1974 season.  The 1974 team lost its next game to go 24-5 (the last Trojan team to go 24-5 was the 1992 team).  USC has never had a team go 25-4 after 29 games, the 86.2 winning percentage would be USC's best since the 1971 team finished 24-2 (92.3 percent).

WINNING WAYS -- USC has won 71 games over the last three seasons (22 in 2020, 25 in 2021 and 24 in 2022), tying the school record of 71 wins over three seasons (2016-18). The three consecutive seasons of 20+ wins also equals the school record for most consecutive 20-win seasons set from 2016-18.  USC has also tied the school record for regular season wins  (24-2 in 1971).  The most wins in a season by USC including postseason is 26 in 2017 (26-10).

FACING OREGON --  Oregon (18-10, 11-6) is coming off a 68-65 home win over No. 12 UCLA on Feb. 24. Guard Will Richardson leads the Ducks in scoring ith a 15.1 average. Oregon defeated USC 79-69 on Jan. 15 in Los Angeles, USC's largest margin of defeat this season.  USC is 66-59 all-time against Oregon.  USC has gone 1-9 in its last 10 trips to Eugene.

IT STARTS WITH DEFENSE -- USC held Washington State to 31.7 percent shooting on Feb. 20 and has held 19 of its 28 opponents to under 40 percent shooting this season.  USC is holding the opposition to a 38.1 shooting percentage, 6th in the country.  USC held its first 12 opponents under 40 percent shooting in each game and to a combined 35.2 shooting percentage, which was second in the country.  The Trojans were the first team in the last 15 seasons to hold its first 12 opponents to under 40 percent shooting in each game.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES, FTs LEAD TO DOUBLE-OT WIN AT OSU -- Drew Peterson had a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead No. 16 USC to a double-overtime win at Oregon State, 94-91, in Corvallis, Ore., on Feb. 24.  Four other Trojans — Isaiah Mobley (19 points), Max Agbonkpolo (16), Reese Dixon-Waters (14, career-high) and Ethan Anderson (12)— also scored in double-digits. Mobley added 10 rebounds and Anderson had six assists and five steals. USC played without Boogie Ellis (left ankle sprain) and Isaiah White (right wrist strain).  OSU's Dashawn Davis was unstoppable as he scored OSU's final 19 points in regulation, making 9-straight shots, incluing a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left to send it to OT. Mobley scored 7 points in the first OT, but a Davis floater with 19 seconds remaining sent the game to the 2nd OT. USC took the lead for good in the 2nd OT on a driving hook shot in the lane by Anderson with 1:13 remaining. Two  FTs by Peterson and 1 by Agbonkpolo sealed the win.  USC made 21 of 25 free throws (84 percent).

GOODWIN EYES THE TOP OF THE HILL -- USC forward Chevez Goodwin has played in 166 career games, second all-time among NCAA Division I players behind Jordan Bohanon of Iowa who has played in 169 through Feb. 24.  The NCAA record for games played entering this season was 157 by David Lighty of Ohio State (2007-11).  Goodwin has played in 61 games as a member of the Trojans' program.

THE TOASTS OF THE COASTS AND NCAA -  When USC defeated Pacific 74-68 on Feb. 8 it completed an undefeated nonconference slate of 11-0.  USC was also undefeated during the 2016-17 nonconference schedule.  Only USC and Villanova (2016-17 and 2017-18) have posted two perfect nonconference seasons of 10 or more wins in the last six years.

No. 2 ARIZONA ON DECK -- USC's next game will be hosting No. 2 Arizona on March 1 at 8 p.m.  USC has urged fans to wear white and "White Out the Wildcats" and is seeking to break the Galen Center record for student attendance for one game. It will be USC's final home game of 2022 and be the first time that it has hosted a team ranked that high since 2014, when the Trojans welcomed No. 1 Arizona to the Galen Center.  The last time USC defeated a team ranked that high was when it beat No. 2 Arizona in the Sports Arena in 2000, 80-72. USC lost 72-63 at Arizona on Feb. 5, a game it led by 6 points with 6:30 to go, but finished 1-for-14 from the field.  USC trails in the all-time series 45-70 (with a win for both teams vacated due to NCAA penalty, original record 46-71).  USC is 4-3 in its last 7 games against Arizona and is 7-4 in its last 11 home games against the Wildcats.
