Women’s Tennis Wins 13th Straight against BYU

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Women's Tennis team earned its 13th-straight victory over Brigham Young University on Friday night at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The #33 Utes defeated #54 the Cougars, 4-0, and improved to 10-1. 

"I am so proud of the team tonight with how well they executed and competed," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "The thing I am most happy with was how they responded to our last match and took the lessons they learned, and implemented the necessary adjustments. We will enjoy this win for tonight, then begin immediate preparations for our next opportunity Sunday."

For the ninth time this season, Utah claimed the doubles point to start the match. Madison Tattini and Linda Huang defeated BYU team Leah Heimuli / Helen Jiao on court one, 6-0. Finishing second was Anastasia Goncharova and Emily Dush. They played and won against the Cougar team of Anastasia Abramyan / Bobo Huang, 6-3. Lindsay Hung and Katya Hersh's match was left unfinished. 
Utah needed to win three singles matches to clinch the match and got out ot a fast start. Tattini was the first to finish in her match against the Cougars Helen Jiao. She won, 6-0, 6-3. 
Anya Lamoreaux won on court six against Madison Smith, 6-0, 6-3. Following the win by A. Lamoreaux, the Utes lead 3-0.
Following close behind her was teammate Huang. She won in a tough match against opponent Leah Heimuli. She traded games with Heimuli in the first set. However, Huang won the first set, 7-5. Huang clinched the match with a second set 6-1 victory. With the win by Huang, Utah won 4-0 over BYU. 
The final three matches were left unfinished.
Utah will play this Sunday against Northern Arizona at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The match will start at 9 a.m. MT.
