Cougars Fall to No. 45 Iowa State

HARRISON, N.Y. – The 45th-ranked Iowa State captured the opening doubles point then won the first three singles matches en route to a 4-0 victory over No. 65 Washington State Saturday morning at the Life Time Westchester center.
With the loss, The Cougars fall to 4-5 on the season while Iowa State improves to 6-0.
The opening doubles points went the distance as WSU's Michaela Bayerlova and Maxine Murphy cruised to a 6-1 win over Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh at No. 1. At No. 2, Iowa State returned the favor, winning 6-1 when Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas defeated Yang Lee and Fifa Kumhom, leaving the deciding point to No.3. There, the Cyclone duo of Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka escaped with a 7-6 (10-8) victory over Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Elyse Tse for the opening 1-0 lead.
The Cyclones made it 2-0 when Kadleckova defeated Murphy 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. Iowa State then sealed the victory with straight-set wins as Cabezas defeated Hania Abouelsaad 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 and Anna Supapitch Kuearum defeated Tse 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4.
The remaining three matches on court were stopped once the team victory was secured.
The Cougars are next in action Sunday when they visit Columbia. Match time is set for 8 a.m. PT.
