Cougs Excel at the Pac-12 Invitational

SEATTLE -- Freshman Alexandra Payne, freshman Antonia Buschendorf, and sophomore Peyton Teevens each recorded an all-time top-10 mark in program history at the Pac-12 Invitational for the Washington State track and field team, as a total of eight Cougars placed inside the top-five in their respective events.

"This was a great meet to end the regular season. We had a number of outstanding performances including several all-time top-10 marks at WSU and top-three performances at this meet. We are very excited about the two national meets ahead; both in Spokane tomorrow and in Birmingham in two weeks."
Payne recorded a new personal record in the women's weight throw with a mark of 18.03m. It is the seventh-best weight throw in WSU history to place sixth overall in the event at the Dempsey Indoor facility. 

In the preliminary round of the women's 60m hurdles, Buschendorf ran the seventh-fastest 60m hurdle race in WSU history with her personal-record time of 8.39 seconds. In the 60m hurdle finals, Buschendorf placed seventh overall with a time of 8.49 seconds.
Teevens posted a sixth-place finish in the women's pentathlon by tallying 3,633 points. Teevens took second place in the final pentathlon event, as she completed the 800m race with a time of 2:15.90. Her point total is the seventh-most points recorded in WSU history in the women's pentathlon.
Graduate student Zach Stallings recorded his fourth sub four-minute mile of the this season to take second in the mile with a time of 3:58.96.
Graduate student Nick Johnson and senior Joseph Heitman both finish inside the top-five in the men's 60m hurdle. Johnson placed second overall with a time of 7.86 seconds to collect his fifth top-three finish in the event this season. Heitman completed the race in 8.28 to claim fifth overall. He was just .02 seconds behind his personal-record time.
In the men's and women's pole vault events three Cougs placed inside the top-five respectively. Senior Emily Coombs and freshman Kolby Weiss finished in third and fourth in the event. Both WSU jumpers cleared 3.87m as their final mark. In the men's pole vault, senior Jacob Englar took third place with a mark of 5.13m.
Junior Suzy Pace leaped her way into a four-way tie for fourth place in the women's high jump. She recorded a mark of 1.70m, tying her season best mark. Pace was not the only WSU jumper to have a good day, as senior Anna Rodgers cleared 5.71m in the women's long jump to take fifth place in the event.
