Feb 26, 2022

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Despite a double-double from Kevin Lamp, No. 12 Stanford fell at CSUN, 15-25, 27-25, 20-25, 24-26, Saturday, at the Matadome.

Lamp posted career-highs in kills (14) and digs (12) to register the first double-double of his collegiate career. His 14 kills came on a .250 attack percentage and he also tallied two of Stanford's six aces.

The Cardinal (8-5) was held to .167 hitting for the night, while CSUN (5-3) posted a .292 clip. The Matadors put up 13.0 blocks and out dug Stanford, 40-36.

Junior Will Rottman was also in double-figures for the Cardinal, totaling 11 kills while hitting from both pins on Saturday.

Junior setter Nathan Lietzke finished with 31 assists, nine digs, two kills and an ace. Coming off a career night on Friday, libero Justin Lui collected eight digs and had four assists against CSUN. For the weekend, the redshirt junior averaged 3.43 digs per set.

The Cardinal struggled with its serve receive against the Matadors, making it hard to get its middles going offensively. Redshirt sophomore Ethan Hill registered five kills on nine swings, while junior Nathaniel Gates had just one kill on eight attempts.

Sophomore Luke Turner had a quiet night with four kills and two digs. Sophomore Aidan Peters replaced Rottman to close out the third set and then started the fourth in place of Turner. The outside hitter had four kills, an assist, an ace and a block in two sets played.

CSUN had three players with double-digit kills. Kyle Hobus led the way with a team-high 12 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Middle Daniel Wetter hit .360 with 11 kills and a match-high seven blocks, while Luke Krzmarzick also tallied 11 kills and finished with seven digs.

Stanford remains on the road next week, opening MPSF play with a pair of matches at Concordia on Thursday and Friday.
