Three Bruins Post Under-Par Scores in Round One at Southern Highlands

LAS VEGAS – Freshman Pablo Ereño Perez recorded his second sub-70 score of the season with a 4-under, 68 to lead the UCLA men's golf team in round one of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Sunday. As a team, the Bruins are tied for ninth in the 15-team field at 6-under, 282.
Three of UCLA's four counting scores were under-par, marking the second time this season the Bruins accomplished the feat (last was round two at the Amer Ari Invitational).
No. 1 Oklahoma sits in first place with a five-strike lead at 20-under, 268 through 18 holes. Georgia Tech's Christo Lamprecht is first on the individual leader board with a one-stroke lead on two golfers at 7-under, 65.
Ereño Perez recorded six birdies in his round and shot a flawless back nine with no bogeys (2-under, 34) to finish tied for 11th. Graduate Eddy Lai shot his lowest round of the season with a 3-under, 69 featuring five birdies. Lai is just outside the top-20 at tied for 22nd.
Freshman Alvaro Mueller Baumgart Lucena recorded just one bogey on his scorecard while holing three birdies on the par-5 third, par-4 seventh and par-3 17th to finish tied for 29th at 2-under, 70.
Senior Bryan Teoh and Evan Chien tied for the Bruins' fourth counting score at 3-over, 75.
