Washington Takes Down RV Iowa State on Final Day of Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The No. 5 Washington softball team got back-on-track Sunday at the final day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, defeating RV Iowa State behind a complete game shutout from Gabbie Plain and a sacrifice fly from Baylee Klingler.
Despite recording what would prove to be the game-winning run in the third, the Huskies were held without a hit until the seventh inning. In the top of the third, Sarah Willis was walked, and then Rylee Holtorf reached on an error, getting to second and moving Willis to third. Kinsey Fiedler was then walked, giving Baylee Klingler loaded bases. Klingler's sac fly to center was able to score Willis from third.
IOWA STATE SCORING

IOWA STATE NOTES
Washington's lone hit of the day came from Jenn Cummings, a double in the top of the seventh. Holtorf and Klingler both recorded sacrifice hits.
Gabbie Plain was perfect through five, until a Cyclone reached on an error, and then a single was hit by the next Iowa State batter. With two on in the bottom of the sixth, Iowa State singled to center field, but Jadelyn Allchin made a game saving throw to get the out at home.
Plain pitched her sixth complete-game shutout of the year and struck out nine Cyclones. This weekend, Plain's 10 strikeouts against Loyola Marymount and nine against Iowa State are the two highest totals for her, so far, this season.
