We've Had Better Days! Day One Recap from Cabo for Men's Golf

Feb 27, 2022

The Sun Devil men's golf team is competing in the CABO COLLEGIATE, presented by CFO4Life, at the Cabo del Sol – Cove Club Course in  Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (6,807 yards/par 71). The Sun Devils entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek Sagarin Rankings. Golfstat has the scoring, and tournament history can be found here.

ASU had a rough first day Sunday, so you can look at the scores and we will get ready for the second round Monday.

Arizona Stated (ranked second by Golfstat), is joined by Oklahoma State (3), Texas Tech (6), Arkansas (7), Stanford (8), Tennessee (10), Ole Miss (16), Alabama (20), Vanderbilt (21), Arizona (28), Florida State (41), Baylor (52), California, Houston and Rice.

Down a few strokes, the Arizona State men's golf team in early March of 2020 -- playing without senior All-American Chun An Yu, who was competing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational March 5-8 -- didn't let a chance to win one of the best tournaments in men's college golf slip away. The Sun Devils got 3-under-68s from freshman David Puig, sophomore Cameron Sisk and freshman Ryggs Johnston and jumped 36-hole leader Arizona in tough wind to take an 8-stroke victory at 20-under-par 832 (281-277-274). Their third-round total of 274 was 10-under-par. Arizona State and Texas A&M were the only teams to break par in the windiest conditions of the three-day event.

The Sun Devil lineup is Mason Andersen, Preston Summerhays, Cameron Sisk, David Puig and James Leow.
