Banke Cards 65, Sienkiewicz Rises to Top of Leaderboards in Cabo

Feb 28, 2022

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The Wildcat tandem of Christian Banke and Chase Sienkiewicz shot blistering low rounds of 65 and 66 on Monday as Arizona Men's Golf shaved eight strokes off their opening round at the Cabo Collegiate. Sienkiewicz carded a round of 66 for the second consecutive day to take a two-stroke lead on the individual leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round with Arizona sitting in ninth place at 6-under.

"We made some moves in the right direction today as Christian and Chase were superb from the start," said head coach Jim Anderson. "We moved up a spot on the leaderboards and can make more moves on Tuesday if we come out and play a complete round. Another day of low scores can push us up the team leaderboards and solidify Chase's position atop the player standings."

Banke's 6-under round of 65 tied the lowest round carded by any player in the first two days of the tournament and marked the graduate senior's fifth round of 66 or lower this season.

Monday's round of 66 for Sienkiewicz tied his career low from Sunday. With a two-shot lead over Vanderbilt's Gordon Sargent and Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira of Arkansas, Sienkiewicz looks to retain the top spot on the leaderboards heading into Tuesday. The junior from Sacramento has never won a college tournament but finished runner up at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in October.

Arizona tees off at 8 a.m. (MST) on Tuesday from the Cabo San Lucas Golf Club, playing along side Stanford, Baylor and Houston.
