Gueye makes it four as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

Feb 28, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – Continuing his stellar inaugural campaign in the Crimson and Gray, Mouhamed Gueye was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time on the year, earning the award for the week ending Feb. 27. His four awards is the second most in the conference trailing only Stanford's Harrison Ingram who has earned a league best six weekly awards on the year.

No other Coug has earned more than two weekly awards in a single season. In addition, the four awards for Gueye is the first time the Cougs have earned more than three weekly awards in a given season as a team in program history.

Introducing himself to rivalry week with the Huskies, Gueye put on a show in his first Boeing Apple Cup contest as the first year forward dominated the UW zone to lead the Cougs to the win in Pullman. Camped in the middle of the zone, Gueye went off for a career-high 25 points going 11-of-23 from the midrange as the Cougs fed their big man throughout the night. The 25 points were the most by a true freshman against the Huskies since CJ Elleby netted 26 in his debut game in Seattle four years prior. In addition to his stellar scoring, Gueye added a then career best three assists while also nabbing five rebounds while tallying one block and one steal.

Three days later Gueye continued his excellent play against the Huskies, this time in Seattle as the young forward ended his day with 10 points and seven rebounds. It was his ninth double-digit scoring game of the season and second-straight against the rival Huskies. Additionally, he again made the most of his size and vision, going one better in the helper department with four assists in the contest.

On the weekend Gueye averaged 17.5 points per game on 45.7% shooting while adding 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.

Gueye and the Cougs begin the final week of Pac-12 play on the road at Oregon State Monday night in Corvallis. The game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. tip on ESPNU at Gill Coliseum.
