Lai Leads Bruins with T-15th Finish at Southern Highlands
LAS VEGAS – Eddy Lai recorded his second top-20 finish of the season as the UCLA men's golf team placed 14th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Lai's 2-under, 70 on day three secured a 6-under, 210 overall score for T-15th as well as his first tournament this season with all three rounds coming under par.
No. 1 Oklahoma earned the tournament victory shooting a 38-under, 826, seven strokes ahead of runner-up No. 5 Pepperdine.
Lai birdied four times in his round with two each coming on the front and back nines.
Freshman Alvaro Mueller Baumgart Lucena finished second for the Bruins at T-44th. Muller holed two birdies on day three en route to a 2-over, 74 score.
Freshman Pablo Ereño Perez bounced back from yesterday, recording UCLA's second-lowest score of the day with a 1-under, 71 featuring four birdies. Ereño Perez shot a 2-under, 34 on the front nine.
Senior Bryan Teoh placed fourth overall for the Bruins at T-77th (+12, 228). Teoh recorded a 7-over, 79 on day three.
Freshman Evan Chien shot UCLA's fourth counting score on day three with a 5-over, 77. Chien would finish the tournament in 81st at 14-over, 230.
UCLA's next competition is in three weeks at The Goodwin on Stanford Golf Course running from March 24 through March 26.
