Two Podiums On Opening Night Of Pac-12s
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – California earned a pair of third-place finishes on the opening night of the 2022 Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on Wednesday night.
The Golden Bears touched third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:23.36) and the 800 freestyle relay (6:09.98), both of which were NCAA "A" qualifying times and season-best marks. Having not competed in the diving portion of the championship meet, Cal currently sits in sixth place with 64 points.
Daniel Carr (20.97 split), Liam Bell (20.58), Dare Rose (18.27) and Björn Seeliger (18.27) swam the 200 medley relay, shaving 1.02 seconds off the Bears' lowest time of the year.
The quartet of Robin Hanson (1:33.50), Gabriel Jett (1:32.90), Trenton Julian (1:31.48) and Destin Lasco (1:32.10) finished off the first night of Pac-12 competition by dropping Cal's season-low time in the 800 free relay by 4.97 seconds. Cal's time was faster than its former Pac-12 Championships record of 6:10.94 set in 2019, but both Arizona State (6:07.51) and Stanford (6:08.73) touched ahead of the Bears.
The Bears will swim the 500 free, 200 individual medley, 50 free and 200 free relay Thursday the Pac-12 Championships. Prelims for the three individual events start at 11 a.m. PT, followed by finals at 6 p.m. PT. The finals will be streamed live on Pac-12.com and the Pac-12 Now app.
