Delanie Wisz

FULLERTON, Calif. – Delanie Wisz doubled and homered to knock in a collective three RBI and Holly Azevedo twirled 4.0 innings of one-hit ball as the No. 5 UCLA softball team defeated Cal Poly, 9-0, in mercy-rule fashion in day one of the Judi Garman Classic.

Azevedo retired the first 11 batters she faced en route to earning her sixth victory of the season.

Wisz opened the scoring with a double over a diving Mustang center fielder that brought Kinsley Washington around third and to home.

Infielder Briana Perez led off the bottom of the second inning with a home run to left field to stretch the Bruins' (13-3) lead to 2-0.

UCLA exploded for seven runs on five hits in the fourth inning, the last of which was a towering two-run homer to left field by Delanie Wisz to put the mercy-rule in effect, 9-0, going into the top of the fifth inning.

After Lexi Sosa walked two of the first three batters she faced, the Bruins turned to Lauren Shaw who induced a fly out to Maya Brady in center field and line out to Anna Vines at second base to end the game.
