EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon opened its weekend the right way, picking up a 5-2 win over Denver on Thursday in the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks (6-4) earned the doubles victory with quick wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, winning 6-3 on both courts.
The Pioneers (4-6) got a point back at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2), but Joshua Charlton won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to ensure Oregon would just need to split the remaining four matches to win.
Ryoma Matsushita continued the Ducks' momentum and put them a point away from victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles. Ivailo Keremedchiev then clinched the match, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 3. Jesper Klov-Nilsson provided the final Duck victory with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in a match that was close all evening.
