USC Baseball to Honor Mike Gillespie in Pregame Ceremony on April 9
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball program will be honoring Trojan great Mike Gillespie, who passed away in July of 2020, with a pregame number retirement ceremony on Saturday, April 9.
The Trojans host Oregon State at 2 p.m. on April 9, with the pregame ceremony for Gillespie starting at 1:30 p.m. Gillespie's number 19 will be retired on the outfield wall at Dedeaux Field as the USC program will be remembering his legacy throughout the afternoon.
Gillespie played for the Trojans under legendary coach Rod Dedeaux from 1960-62, helping USC to a College World Series title in 1961 and a runner-up finish in 1960. He went on to coach USC for 20 years (1987-2006), leading the Trojans to five Pac-10 titles, 14 NCAA Regional appearances, four CWS berths (including finalist in 1995) and the 1998 CWS crown.
