USC's Amari Avery Named Pac-12 Women's Golfer Of The Month
Freshman golfer Amari Avery, who started the first two tournaments of her USC career with a win and a sixth-place finish, has been named the Pac-12 Women's Golfer of the Month for February, the conference announced Thursday (March 3).
Her month was highlighted by a program record-tying performance as she won the Icon Invitational at 15-under 201 (65-71-65), matching the Trojan standard for most under par first set in 2007 by USC NCAA champion Dewi Claire Schreefel.
Avery's effort at the Houston event, with just two bogeys over 54 holes, also marked the first time a Trojan ever posted a pair of 65s in one tournament.
A week early at the San Diego-based Lamkin Invitational, she tied for sixth in her college stroke-play debut at 3-over 219 (77-68-74).
Most recently, in an an event which did not count toward the February award, Avery won for the second time in a row at The Gold Rush, earning her second trophy on March 1 with a 5-under 211.
