Women's Tennis Set For Pac-12 Showdowns With USC and UCLA

FIRST SERVE
Utah Women's Tennis will open Pac-12 play this weekend with a pair of matches. Utah will first go head-to-head with the USC Trojans on Friday, at 1:30 p.m. MT, and then they will play it out against the UCLA Bruins on Sunday, at 12 p.m. MT. Both matches will take place on the Utes' home court, the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.

MATCH DAY PROMOTION
We have a lot going on Friday night against #21 USC. The first 50 fans will receive free pizza and a U of U Tennis ball. On Sunday, the first 50 fans will receive free pizza. 
 
ITA NATIONAL TEAM RANKINGS
The second computerized ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women's team rankings were released on March 1. The ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women's Team Rankings feature the nation's Top 75 teams. The Utes entered the ITA National Team Rankings on Wednesday as the 27th ranked team in the country. Utah is currently 11-1 on the season. 
 
LAST TIME OUT 
Last weekend, the Utes took home to big wins against #54 BYU and Northern Arizona, beating both teams 4-0. 
 
Utah started the weekend off against BYU on Friday, Feb. 25. Utah was able to clinch the doubles point with Utes teams, Madison Tattini and Linda Huang winning their match, 6-0, and Emily Dush and Anastasia Goncharova defeating their opponents, 6-3.
 
Utah finished one right after another in singles, with Tattini clinching her match first, 6-0, 6-3. Following closely behind her, Anya Lamoreaux defeated her opponent, 6-0, 6-3, and Huang won her match, 7-5,6-1. 
 
Utah hit the courts only two days later on Sunday, Feb. 27, to play Northern Arizona. Utah earned its second doubles point of the weekend. Dush and Goncharova were the first doubles team to finish, winning 6-1. Huang and Tattini weren't too far behind, defeating their opponents second, 6-4.
 
Goncharova was also the first to finish in singles, winning 6-3, 6-1. Tattini was the second Ute to gain a singles point, clinching her match, 7-5, 6-2. Closing out the match, Dush, in a great match, defeated her opponent in the first set 6-1 and narrowly defeated by a 7-point tiebreaker in her second set, 7-6 (3). She came back to win the third, 6-0, and earn the last singles point of the match.
 
LAST TIME VS USC AND UCLA
Utah matched up against USC and UCLA on back-to-back days last season, and the LA schools came away with two wins. 
 
SCOUTING USC
USC is currently 21st in the ITA National Team Rankings, only six spots above the Utes. USC has won 6 of their 12 matches this season. The Trojans have dropped five straight matches this season. They have four ranked players, Eryn Cayetano (5), Salma Ewing (36), Snow Han (56), and Danielle Willson (106), and one ranked doubles team, Salma Ewing / Snow Han (19).
 
SCOUTING UCLA
UCLA is currently 16th in the ITA National Team Rankings. They have won four of their seven matches this season. The Bruins have won their last two matches and are currently 4-3 on the season. This spring, the Bruins are 21-13 in singles and 13-5 in doubles. UCLA has three singles players ranked in the ITA singles rankings and is led by Alexandra Vagramov, who is ranked 102nd. Kimmi Hance (111) and Abigail Forbes (115) round out the singles players ranked. Elysia Bolton and Elise Wagle earned the 28th ranking in doubles, while Ava Catanzarite and Abigail Forbes came in at 30th. 
 
The Bruins went 22-5 last year. Abbey Forbes was their leading winner with 24 wins and three losses. 
 
TOP TEN RECRUITING CLASS 
The Utah women's tennis team earned a top ten recruiting class for the first time in school history. The Utes earned the ninth-ranked class by the Tennis Recruiting Network. Utah has signed three for next season. Kaila Barksdale, Yasmin Ezzat, and Marcela Lopez have all signed to join the Utes for the 2022-23 season. To find out more about the class, click here
 
TOP AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS
Universal Tennis took a look at the top 10 ranked college players from Australia. The results are based on the UTR Ranking. Utah's Linda Huang came in fourth on the list. Her ranking is 10.23 from the UTR Rating.
 
UP NEXT 
Utah hits the road for the first time this season for Pac-12 play. The Utes head to Seattle, Wash. To take on the Washington Huskies on Friday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. MT.
