Beavers Open Outdoor Season at Willamette Opener

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track and field team opens the outdoor season on Saturday at the Willamette Opener in Salem, Ore. Field events will start at 10 a.m. and events on the track will begin at 11 a.m. 

The Beavers will be competing primarily in the shot put at 10 a.m., the 1500 meters at 11 a.m., the 400 meters at 12:25 p.m., and the 800 meters at 12:40 p.m. 
 
2021 Outdoor Season Review
Oregon State completed a full outdoor slate last year and hosted two meets. The Beavers cliched first in the team standings at the OSU Pacific Northwest Team Clash on Mar. 13 with 262 points as well as the tri-meet with Western Oregon and Humboldt State on Mar. 20, scoring 267 points. 
 
At the Pac-12 Championships, May 14-16, the Beavers posted 12 top-10 finishes. Bayta Beard, Kaylee Mitchell, and Grace Fetherstonhaugh set program records in the 10K (33:25.86), 3000-meter steeplechase (9:48.30), and 5000 meters (15:58.93), respectively. 
 
Seven Beavers represented Oregon State at the NCAA West Preliminaries in College Station, Tex. May 24-25. Sara Sanders recorded a personal-best of 47.86m (175' 0") in the javelin event, finishing 23rd in the region. Lindsay McShane finished 17th in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.86m (199' 8") and ended her career in the Orange & Black as the top performer in the hammer throw with a school record of 64.47m (211' 6"), set on May 7, 2021 at the Oregon Twilight meet.
 
On the track, Fetherstonhaugh qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after clocking a time of 9:50.40 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She finished third in her heat and seventh overall. Fetherstonhaugh later withdrew from the national championships due to non-covid-19 related illness. 
 
Mitchell capped the outdoor season with the U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 32nd in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:26.69 on June 20.
