UCLA Leaves Yard Five Times in 14-2 Victory over Texas A&M
FULLERTON, Calif. – Freshman Savannah Pola had a 3-for-4 day with two doubles and a solo home run to knock in a total of six RBI in the No. 5 UCLA softball team's 14-2 mercy-rule victory over Texas A&M at Anderson Family Field on Saturday night.
The Bruins (17-3) left the yard a season-high five times against the Aggies (14-4).
Redshirt senior Delanie Wisz also recorded the fourth two-homer game of her UCLA career with blasts in the second and fourth innings.
Holly Azevedo started the game in the circle for UCLA, allowing two hits in two innings on the way to picking up her eighth win of the season and the 50th of her career.
Pola kicked off the scoring with a 2-RBI double to the left center gap in the first inning. An inning later, Pola scored UCLA's next three runs with a bases-clearing double for her Pac-12-leading ninth two-bagger of the season which brought the tally to 5-0.
Pola now leads the team and ranks fifth in the Pac-12 with 23 RBI.
Redshirt senior Briana Perez hit a solo homer to dead center two batters later for her fourth long ball of the year.
After scoring once in the third inning, the Bruins went back-to-back-to-back in the fourth with homers from Pola, Wisz and Maya Brady. Pola finished the night with eight total bases. Brady now leads the team with six home runs this season.
Pitchers Lauren Shaw and Megan Faraimo allowed an unearned run and earned run, respectively, before the game's end. All three pitchers for the Bruins recorded three strikeouts apiece.
UCLA returns home for the first time in a month next week to host the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Competition begins Thursday, March 10 versus Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. PT. The Bruins will play a total of five games through Saturday, March 12 with double-headers on Friday and Saturday.
