Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Names Clarkson a National Player of the Week

Mar 7, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah two-way player TJ Clarkson has been selected as a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the organization announced on Monday. Clarkson, a redshirt sophomore from Gilbert, Arizona, hit a team-leading .471, slugged 1.000 and clubbed three homers to lead the Utes to a 4-1 record last week.

Clarkson saw time playing first base, designated hitter and also pitched 0.2 innings with a strikeout in the March 1 win at UNLV. Along the way, he had six RBI and two multi-hit games.

He was 3-for-5 at the plate in the UNLV game with a two-run dinger among his three RBI on the day. Later in the week, Clarkson bookended Utah's four-game series at CSU Bakersfield with homers in the Friday night opener and Sunday series finale.

Clarkson's active seven-game hitting streak is a career-long and currently the longest active streak by a Ute.

Utah (8-2-1) is off to its best start since at least the 1981 season. The Utes close out a California swing on Tuesday, March 8 with a game at Fresno State beginning at 7:05 p.m. MT.
