SEATTLE – For the second week in a row, Husky junior Clement Chidekh has been named the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The No. 1-ranked player in the nation, Chidekh scored a crucial win for the Huskies in their Pac-12 opener last Saturday in Eugene, clinching a 4-2 win for the Dawgs against the Ducks.
The native of France ran his dual match record to 7-0 and his overall season record to 18-3 as he fought back from down a set to beat 81st-ranked Joshua Charlton of Oregon, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, for the fourth Husky point to secure Washington's road win in Eugene. Chidekh was down 4-6, 3-4, before winning nine of the next eleven games.
Not only did Chidekh come through clutch in singles, but he and Nedim Suko fought back from 2-5 down in their No. 2 doubles match to win a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), over Oregon's Kadiri/Keremedchiev which broke the 1-1 tie to clinch the doubles point for the Huskies.
Washington improved to 10-3 on the season and 1-0 in Pac-12 play with its highest-ranked win so far this season, as the Ducks were ranked No. 52 entering the match. This week the Huskies return to non-conference competition, taking part in a four-team bracketed dual match tourney hosted by San Diego, which also includes Penn and New Mexico.
