Ducks Win Bandon Dunes Championship

Mar 8, 2022

BANDON, Ore. – Led by below-par rounds from Yuki Moriyama, Oven Avrit and Nate Stember, the Oregon men's golf team won the 2022 Bandon Dunes Championship Tuesday on the Sheep Ranch Course.
Individually, four Ducks finished in the top 10, led by Greyson Leach and Greg Solhaug who tied for fourth at 1-over 212.
"We battled and fought through some challenging circumstances," said coach Casey Martin. "Playing competitive golf at Bandon Dunes is extremely difficult."
For the second day in a row, Oregon posted the tournament's low round, a 4-under 280, and finished the event at 11-over 863. That was enough to give the Ducks a two-stroke victory over San Jose State (865). No. 9 Kansas was third at 866 with Utah fourth at 873.
How it Happened: Moriyama had five birdies on the back nine on the way to a 3-under 68.
Avrit carded two birdies and 16 pars for a 2-under 69, while Stember had a 70. The Ducks also counted a 73 from Eric Doyle on Tuesday.
Individually, Leach recorded his first collegiate eagle on the first hole and had a 70 in the final round. Solhaug's 69 lifted him into a tie with Leach for his best finish as a collegian. Those two both competed as individuals this week.
Avrit earned his third top-10 finish of the season and his best showing of the season, tying for sixth at even-par 213. Stember was eighth at 214, his second top-10 of 2021-22.
Moriyama's 68 saw him jump from 34th to 18th in the final standings at 5-over 218. It was his best finish of 2021-22.
Head coach Casey Martin
"It's fun to win."
Notable: This was the Ducks' second win and third top-two finish of the season. Oregon also won the Saint Mary's Invitational in the fall and finished second two weeks ago at The Prestige. Avrit now has 13 rounds below par in 21 total rounds this season. The Ducks were the best in the field playing par fours at plus-23. Solhaug was second in the field on par-fives, playing them 6-under par.
