Golf Places Fourth at the Bandon Dunes Invitational

Bandon, Ore- The Utah Men's Golf team finished in fourth place out of a 15-team field at the Bandon Dunes Invitational after shooting 21-over (873). Four Utes finished inside the top 30 for the third straight tournament. 

The Utes opened the three-day tournament tied for fifth out a 15-team field, shooting 7-over (291) after the first 18. The team would shot 11-over (296), in round two to help them climb the leader board one spot to fourth. In the third and final round the Utes would have their strongest 18-hole stretch of the tournament, shooting 2-over (286). This allowed the Utes to hold on to fourth place and earn its seventh consecutive top-five finish.
 
INDIVIDUAL BREAKDOWN
Senior Blake Tomlinson and Sophomore Javier Barcos both tied for 11th after shooting 4-over (217). Tomlinson shot 1-over (72) in rounds one and three while also performing strongly in round two shooting 2-over (73). Tomlinson was one of only 18 players out of the 100-player field to shoot 73 or lower in round two. Barcos also finished inside the top 12 thanks to a strong first and third round where he shot 1-under (70). Barcos sat in a tie for eighth after the first day and was able to climb the leader board seven spots in the final round to finish in a tie for 11th.

True freshmen Braxton Watts used a strong second round, where he shot 1-under (70), to propel him up the leader board 41 spots to tie for 14th. Watts would shoot 2-over (73) in the final round to tie for 21st, giving him a tournament score of 6-over (219).

Rounding out the team was redshirt Freshmen Martín León and senior Tristan Mandur. Leon had a strong final round in which he shot even par-(71) to lock himself into a tie for 30th with a tournament score of 8-over (221). Mandur shot 13-over (226) with his best round 4-over (73) on the final 18.

"We love playing in this event. We had really high expectations entering this week and we just never quite got going in the right direction," said head coach Garrett Clegg. "Both Blake and Javier had really good moments, but neither felt like they really had a great tournament. We have some time to get back home and clean up some of our errors." 

UP NEXT
The team will be back in action in Oregon March 21-22 as they compete in the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. The two day tournament will be held at Eugene Country Club.
