MVB Travels to Play Two at Stanford

The Bruins are 10-0 this season when registering more blocks than the opponent.

THIS WEEK — UCLA (12-2, 4-0), ranked No. 1 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, travels to play at Stanford (8-7, 0-2) in a pair of league matches on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (6 p.m.) nights. The Bruins have won their last five matches this season. The Cardinal own a 7-0 record at home this season.

LAST MEETING -- UCLA captured all four meetings with Stanford in the 2021 season (2 home/2 road). The last Bruin series loss came at Stanford in 2020. UCLA hit at least .385 in all four 2021 meetings and enjoyed a 35-11 edge in aces over the four matches.
 
UCLA AS NO. 1 -- UCLA held its spot at the top in the AVCA poll for a third straight week. This year's top ranking marks the first appearance for the Bruins at No. 1 since week 12 of the 2016 season (week of Mar. 28). UCLA defeated then No. 1 Long Beach State in five sets on Feb. 19, 2022 to advance into the top of the poll. The Bruins were also ranked No. 1 in the 2016 campaign over an earlier three-week period in weeks 2, 3 and 4 (Jan. 18-Feb. 1). UCLA has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the AVCA poll in 6 of the last 7 seasons (not in 2021). 
 
MPSF -- The top-seeded team after the conclusion of regular season play will host the entire MPSF post-season Tournament beginning on Apr. 20. Pre-season MPSF coaches poll: 1-Pepperdine, 2-UCLA, 3-BYU, 4-Grand Canyon, 5-USC, 6-Stanford, 7-Concordia, Irvine. 

NCAA / MPSF RANKINGS -- Entering the week the Bruins are rated in the Top 10 nationally in kills (2nd-13.29), set assists (4th-12.10), hitting% (2nd-.355) and blocks (7th-2.49). Miles Partain ranks 9th in the nation in set assists per frame at 10.02. UCLA leads the MPSF in hitting% (.355), blocks (2.49) and kills per set (13.29).

NOTES --  UCLA has hit for a higher percentage than its opponent it all 12 wins this season and had hit at least .350 in 10 matches ... It has hit at least .400 in each of the last three matches and had a season-high .478 mark in win at CUI (2/25)  ... Bruins held GCU under .200 as a team on Thursday (.149) and in three of the six sets played on Friday and Saturday ... the week prior, it held Concordia under .200 in six of the seven sets played ... Bruins have double-digit total blocks in 4 of the last 5 matches and own a 10-0 mark in matches when recording more blocks than opponent ... Ethan Champlin has an ace in 7 of the last 8 matches and a total of 16 over that span ... he began the week 4th in the MPSF and 28th in NCAA in aces (0.43) ... had a career-best 6 aces in win over CUI(h) ... registered a school record four-straight service aces in a set during win at UCSD ... Miles Partain is 9th in NCAA in set assists (10.02) average ... has a career-best three service aces vs. UCI and CSUN ... has 20 blocks assists in last 5 matches ... team hit season-best .478 at CUI (2/25) and over .400 in each of the last three matches ... Guy Genis has hit .575 over the past 8 matches (67k-6e-106ta) ... began the week first in the MPSF with a .593 hitting percentage ... had season-bests of 2 block solos and 6 block assists v. GCU (3/3) ... Merrick McHenry tied his career-high with 6 block assists vs. GCU (3/3) ... hit 13k-0e-16ta in matches vs. GCU (.813) last week ... Ido David recorded a high of four aces in win at UCSD ... Kevin Kobrine had 23 kills in wins over GCU last week ... season-high 14 kills vs. GCU (3/4) ... AT HOME/AWAY -- UCLA is 3-1 in away matches this season (loss at Beach) ... the Bruins are 9-1 this season at home (3-1 in Wooden; 6-0 in Pauley).

NCAA HOSTS -- UCLA will host the NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championship in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on May 3, 5 and 7.
