Mar 9, 2022

TEMPE - Sun Devil Men's Tennis Earned three upsets over the No. 5 Baylor Bears in
Wednesday night's 4-3 home loss. No. 59 Fabien Salle/Max McKennon upset No. 18 Finn Bass/Sven Lah, while unranked Murphy Cassone/Jacob Bullard went up on No. 80 Matias Soto/Juampi Mazzuchi. No. 94 Salle bested No. 27 Soto in singles too.

"Really tough match tonight losing to #5 Baylor - we knew it was going to be a really tough test for our guys," head coach Matt Hill said. "I'm proud of the guys for taking it to the limit. Baylor executed better than us at the end of the match and that was really the difference they needed. There were a lot of positives out here tonight. We flip one match and things are really good for us. We're not firing on seven cylinders right now but we'll get there and we're excited for the tournament this weekend."

ASU kicked off the day by claiming the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and 2. Cassone/Bullard were first off with a 6-2 straight set victory, and Whiteman Tennis Center erupted when McKennon/Salle upset No. 18 Finn Bass/Sven Lah 7-5 in a nailbiter.

Singles took a turn with the Sun Devils immediately trialing on all courts, but Salle got some energy going with a three-set upset win at No. 2 and Bullard gave the group one more thing to cheer about with a three-set battle at No. 4.

ASU hosts its second and final tournament of the season this weekend. Idaho, Penn State, Princeton, Michigan St., Texas Tech, Tulane, and Witicha st. are all coming to Kiwanis Tennis Center in Mesa, AZ for the weekend tournament.
