USC Women’s Rowing Faces Off Against UCLA Bruins

Mar 10, 2022

LOS ANGELES--The USC women's rowing team will travel west to Marina del Rey, Calif. to challenge UCLA in the annual dual meet on Sunday (March 13). The Women of Troy are coming off a big win against No. 3 Washington. The winner of this Sunday's regatta will be presented with the newly created Amy Fuller Kearney-Lori Guerro Azbill Trophy, established in honor of longtime UCLA coach Amy Fuller Kearney and former USC assistant coach Lori Guerro Azbill.

The dual will begin at 8 a.m. PT as the Third Varsity Eight hits the water first. The Varsity Four will then race at 8:15 a.m. PT, and the Second Varsity Eight will follow at 8:30 a.m. PT. Finally, the Varsity Eight will close out the morning with the final race at 8:45 a.m. PT.
The presentation of the Amy Fuller Kearney-Lori Guerro Azbill Trophy for the USC-UCLA City Dual will occur immediately following the regatta.

In 2021, the Trojans raced the Bruins on two separate occasions. In the first dual on Mar. 27, USC lost 6.5-0, falling to UCLA for the first time in program history. In true "Fight On" spirit, the Trojans rebounded on May 1 and defeated the Bruins with a score of 4-2.5

To highlight the year-long all-sports competition between crosstown rivals USC and UCLA, the Crosstown Cup (formerly Gauntlet Trophy) has been awarded annually since 2001-02 to the school with the most successful athletic year against the other. Points are awarded to the winner of each Trojan-Bruin head-to-head contest and the Crosstown Cup is awarded to the school with the most points at year's end. USC has won the Crosstown Cup 12 times in the competition's 19 years: 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2015-16, 2018-19 and 2020-21.
