Beavers Beat North Dakota State in Home State Tournament Opener
EUGENE, Ore. — No. 23 Oregon State (20-3) opened the Oregon State/Oregon Tournament with a 11-4 win over North Dakota State on Friday, extending its winning streak to 17 games.
The Beavers were powered by a five-run second inning off four hits and two Bison errors.
Freshman Eliana Gottlieb had a productive performance after going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kiki Escobar went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Oregon State opened things up in the first, scoring three runs on four hits, plating one via an RBI double and two on RBI singles from Lici Campbell and Kaylah Nelson.
In the second, the Beavers continued their tear at the plate with a five-run inning highlighted by four hits from Des Rivera, Escobar, Gottlieb and Frankie Hammoude.
The Bison battled back in the fourth, breaking up Sarah Haendiges' perfect game in the circle after scoring three runs on four hits. The final run for NDSU came in the sixth frame.
A pair of runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings would help seal the Oregon State victory and move to 20-3 overall.
Nine Beavers registered a hit in the game with seven also bringing in one or more runs.
Haendiges collected her fifth win of the season in the circle, going the complete game and striking out a career-best nine while surrounding all four runs on six hits.
The No. 23-ranked Beavers continue their weekend at home with three games. OSU welcomes Portland State on Saturday for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. before its final contest on Sunday against North Dakota State at 1:30 p.m. at Kelly Field.
