Wildcats Lose First Match at Home

Tucson, Ariz. - No. 18 Arizona falls 2-5 to No. 5 Baylor in a gritty matchup at home. This marks the first loss at home for the Wildcats. 

The Wildcats stumbled in doubles play today dropping the point to the Bears. Carlos Hassey and Gustaf Strom lost 2-6  to the No. 80 doubles pair Juampi Mazzuchi and Matias Soto. Finalizing the doubles point for Baylor was the No. 18 doubles pair Finn Bass and Sven Lah who defeated Jonas Ziverts and Herman Hoeyeraal 6-4. 

Singles play was where it was at for the Cats today. No. 74 Hoeyeraal took the first singles point for Arizona after a tactile two set victory over Bass 6-1, 6-3. Malbasic finished 2-6, 3-6 on court six against Mazzuchi, and No. 80 Ziverts finished third against No. 42 Adrian Boitan 2-6 in two straight sets. 

Strom finished strong on court two defeating No. 27 Soto 6-2 in two straight sets. Hassey battled Tadeas Paroulek in two sets that ended in a 1-6, 5-7 loss. No. 36 Smith fought every second of his three sets against No. 41 Lah that went 5-7, 6-0, 6-7(6-7). 

This completes the third Big 12 matchup for the Cats. The men are now 13-5 as they head to Los Angeles next week for their first two conference matches against No. 46 UCLA on Friday, March 18, and No. 9 USC on Sunday, March 20.
